Grant for Minor Hockey Week
The RBC World Hockey Tour, that encourages participation in minor hockey, left behind a grant of $5,000 for Camrose Minor Hockey.
The gift came from the legacy of the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship and the exhibition game between Team USA and Switzerland that was played in Camrose on Dec. 21.
RBC awarded a total of $70,000 in grants to 14 communities across Alberta and each $5,000 grant was given as part of the World Hockey Tour to commemorate the legacy of the World Juniors and recognize the efforts of associations that help people get started, get better and go further in hockey.
The grants will help fund skating programs, hockey development initiatives and coaching clinics. "RBC Play Hockey was created to support the hard work and dedication of people in communities like Camrose and Okotoks who volunteer their time to help hockey happen," said Bruce MacKenzie, regional president, Alberta and the Territories, RBC. "Hockey is part of the fabric of this nation. By supporting the game at the grassroots level, we hope to protect and grow hockey so that Canada can compete at the highest levels for generations to come."
RBC Play Hockey is a wide-ranging, multi-year commitment aimed at supporting grassroots hockey. The cornerstone of RBC Play Hockey is its grants program which provides funding for new and existing hockey initiatives that get people playing the game at all levels. New for 2012, RBC will augment funding for future grant recipients with one year of financial advice to help local organizations better manage their hockey programs.
Grant applications will remain open until May 30. If you know of a great hockey initiative in your community, apply for an RBC Play Hockey grant at rbcplayhockey.com.
