Black receives the most Senate votes in Alberta
Doug Black racked up the most votes in the senate election with 428,791 on election day on April 23.
Scott Tannas was second with 349,396 and Mike Shaikh came in third with 308,339 votes. All three were running as Progressive Conservatives.
In the Wetaskiwin-Camrose riding, Black recorded 4,850 votes to Tannas' 4,460. The pattern was similar in Battle River-Wainwright where Black collected 5,285 votes compared to 4,423 for Tannas.
Tannas, president and CEO of the Western Financial Group that has an office in Camrose, was one of 13 Albertans running for 'senator-in-waiting' election. The Prime Minister has the final say in appointments to the Senate.
The list of those who ran for the Senate positions were Doug Black of Calgary, Len Bracko of St. Albert, Perry Chahal of Edmonton, William Exelby of Edmonton, David Fletcher of Edmonton, Paul Frank of Calgary, Raymond Germain of Calgary, Rob Gregory of Calgary, Elizabeth Johannson of Edmonton, Vitor Marciano of Calgary, Mike Shaikh of Calgary, Scott Tannas of High River and Ian Urquhart of Edmonton.
