Kucy golfers invited to world championships
Jayla and Devin Kucy are going to see the world on their summer holidays. The sister and brother golfers qualified for the junior world championships in San Diego or Los Angeles on July 14 to 21.
They qualified based on their performance at the Veritas World Junior Canadian Qualifier at Collicutt Siding Golf Course on June 2 and 3. The travel provider is Disneyland Sports, so a side trip to the magic land could also be in store for the children. It is also sponsored by the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team.
Three Kucy children picked up medals at the Canadian Junior Golf Association's tournament in Red Deer on May 27.
Devin Kucy, 9, earned a gold medal in the boys' nine and 10 age division at Riverbend Golf Course and won by two strokes.
His brother Mason, 11, also played very well and received a silver medal for his efforts in the 11 to 13 age category. "He just could not catch the leader who caught fire and shot par on the final nine holes," said Joe Kucy, the proud father.
Jayla, 6, won gold in the nine and under girls' division and shaved 16 shots from her score last year. "It was a great improvement. It was a great result for all the Kucy children," explained Joe. "The weather was fantastic and the smiles were even bigger after the medal presentation." It was the first time that all three received a medal in the same tournament.
They all entered the US Kids' World's Qualifier in Crossfield on June 3.
