Special Olympics ball tournament Sunday
The emphasis will be on fun when Camrose Special Olympics hosts a ball tournament on the Kin 1 ball diamond starting at 8:30 this Sunday.
"We're going to have two teams from Olds, one from Lacombe and our own two teams," said Camrose Special Olympics ball team head coach Lex Noseworthy.
"Altogether we expect to have more than 60 athletes participating."
Camrose Special Olympics hosted the tournament for the first time last summer with good attendance.
"We're calling it a fun tournament so in essence everyone is a winner," said Noseworthy. "The competitive tournament will be held at St. Paul at the end of the season."
The tournament action will be followed by a supper and a dance.
Camrose Special Olympics organizers see the tournament being stretched into a two-day affair as it becomes better known with the Special Olympics affiliates across the province.
"It is very popular with all the players," said Noseworthy. "They like attending the practices but there is nothing like having real competition."
Anyone who is willing to assist with the tournament as a volunteer worker is encouraged to call Noseworthy at 780-672-3191.
