Students at Charlie Killam School will be wearing pink shirts Mar. 2 to show that they will not tolerate bullying.

"This is the second year that we will be doing this," said Charlie Killam School principal Tom Midbo.

"I am anticipating a good response."

H&R Block Camrose franchisee Janice Zimmerman was recognized with a 25-year service award at a H&R Block National Operations meeting in Vancouver Oct. 30.

"It was myself and one other person who received the award," said Zimmerman.

"I guess it speaks to how much I enjoy what I am doing."

The Kelsey Drama Club will present a special dinner performance of Norman Foster's Bedtime Stories this Sunday (Feb. 26).

"The proceeds from the performance will be put into a trust fund that has been set up for Karen Greenwood at the Royal Bank in Camrose," said Ardis Peterson.

The City of Camrose and its residents are being encouraged to join the call for the adoption of a  poverty reduction strategy for Alberta.

Action to End Poverty in Alberta has initiated a petition urging the Government of Alberta to provide leadership, and for all political parties to adopt, support and legislate poverty reduction targets and timelines.

The Camrose Chamber of Commerce reflected on a busy 2011 at its 102nd annual meeting Feb. 1.

The Chamber finished the year with 372 paid members, which was a decrease of six per cent from 2010.

Former Rose City Curling Club members Les Zarski and Jack Wallis were honoured at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Alberta Boston Pizza Cup in Camrose Feb. 8.

Zarski was a member of the Rose City Curling Club since its incorporation in 1967.

"I was a member of both the Rose City Curling Club and the curling club in Daysland," he explained.

"They'll be arriving today to look at their suites and take measurements for furniture," said The Bethany Group CEO Denis Beesley.

"We're going to be holding a reception in the Norsemen Inn starting at 7:30," explained Camrose campaign coordinator Erhard Pinno.

"It will be an opportunity to come and learn how a once fatal disease is now manageable and treatable."

Movie fans could well look back on 2012 as the year the Nordlys Film and Arts Festival came into its own.

"For the first time in our history we're going to be showing movies in a place (the historic Bailey Theatre) that was meant for showing movies," explained Nordlys Film and Arts Festival president Hans Olson.

RCMP have arrested the man believed to be responsible for the shooting of two  Killam RCMP officers.

Sawyer Clarke Robison, 27, was charged with two counts of attempted murder early Friday after being picked up in a rural area approximately 160 km southeast of Edmonton.

"We've had unusually stable prices for crude oil since last fall and that is one of the reasons our province has the best economy in the country," stated the ATB Financial senior economist during a Camrose Chamber of Commerce workshop last Tuesday morning.

City of Camrose land sales totalled $3,135,000 in 2011 according to a report presented to City council's committee of the whole meeting Feb. 6.

Seventeen residential lots in the Valleyview development sold for $2,255,170, while four industrial lots in the Mohler II development sold for $880,000.

"The number of booth spaces we have left are very limited," said CRE trade show committee chair Dwayne Roth last week.

The Camrose Regional Exhibition will receive an additional  $142,850 in base funding in 2012 from Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.

"We've been working with the government to have our funding needs addressed and we are very pleased with the response we have received," said Camrose Regional Exhibition general manager Wynn McLean last week.

"Income before ProfitShare allocation and income taxes exceeded $11 million, the second highest in our history," explained president Alan Fielding in Growing Forward, BRCU's annual report to members.

The amount allocated directly to BRCU common share accounts on Dec. 1, 2011, was  $6,936,000.
