The road to defending the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference hockey championship banner came to a dead end for the Augustana Vikings on March 9.

Augustana staved off elimination with a 4-2 victory in Calgary on March 8. However, the SAIT Trojans won the fourth game 6-3 in Camrose to take the semifinal series.

The Augustana Vikings hockey club were fighting for its life after dropping two straight games to the SAIT Trojans in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference semifinals. Augustana won 4-3 In Calgary, but lost 6-3 at home to end the series.

A motion was updated to approve the allocation of funds as outlined by the Affordable Housing Sub Committee of council and direct administration to work with the successful proponents on the revision of an affordable housing plan that will be brought forward to the March 18 regular meeting.

University of Alberta, Augustana Campus will be presenting Mark Ravenhill’s play, Shoot. Get Treasure. Repeat. from March  14 to 16  and again March 20 to 23 at the Augustana Theatre Building beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Camrose Kodiaks' rookie forward Tanner MacMaster was named the Alberta Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year. He received the Dick White Trophy  prior to the start of the playoffs on March 6.

The Camrose Spring Classic Pro Rodeo is a special event for the area from March 15 to 17.

Mayor Marshall Chalmers declared that March 11 to 17 will be rodeo week in the city as the community hosts the first major rodeo event of the new season.

"This is our 25th anniversary, so we are going to be having some special events taking place," said rodeo chair Ken Hildebrandt.

Local artist Jason Dufresne will be displaying about 20 pieces of abstract art at the Camrose County during an art gala on Saturday, March 9.
